Viable and not viable spore concentrations in National Gallery of Umbria (Italy)

Abstract The conservation actions towards artworks holding a common patrimony for the community are of primary importance, but also those related to their "container" as museums, libraries or archives consider. Fungal spores and bacteria carried by air flows artwork surface can colonize it causing biodeterioration through physical and/or chemical alterations materials with irreversible loss value. quality control indoor surrounding historic building is essential, well protection artwork, health operators visitors. aim this study was monitor airborne fungal particles, volumetric spore traps, improving knowledge about in museum environment analysing principal relationships between environmental conditions potentially biodeteriogen growth. evidence no significant concentrations recorded inside different expositive rooms testified regular correct maintenance conditioning system considered (National Gallery Umbria, central Italy). Moreover, specific room concentration decreasing trend mainly due structural modification same building.
